Grandparent scam calls with a cloned voice
Is that really my grandkid calling for money?
What it looks like
A call comes in. It sounds just like a grandchild, and they are upset. They say they are in jail, in a crash, or stuck far away, and they need money fast. Often they beg you not to tell Mom or Dad. Scammers can copy a voice from a short clip posted online.
What to do
- Hang up, even if the voice sounds real.
- Call the person back on a number you already know, or call another family member.
- Ask for your family safe word. If there is no safe word yet, pick one together this week.
- Never pay by gift card, wire, crypto, or cash handed to a courier.
